The inside knowledge of how to really sell me this pen! After being into marketing field for the last 7 year and understanding both sides of the table, I realised why exactly does this exercise exist.
When your interviewer asks you to sell this pen to me. Don’t start with selling the pen with its details and 100 ways you can use it.
Your initial job as a sales person is to ask questions and mould your pitch as per their requirement. Your initial response to the above question should be
1.Do you need a pen? Coz if that person is not going to need a pen why will you waste your time explaining them the benefits?
2.If they are not interested somehow, ask them why? Do they have a stock in hand? Do they buy a different brand?
3. Now you can analyse the situation and place your pitch in a way that he may not be able to reject. Your job as a sales person is to analyse the requirement and make a sales pitch which tracks back to company. However, if there is a zero chance of them buying, leave them alone.
